WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Final Mile Driver, you'll support our Northeast operations using our Flemington, NJ yard as a base. You'll play a crucial role in streamlining our delivery flow by handling:

  • Local pickups and deliveries in the final leg of the supply chain
  • Swapping freight with OTR drivers to minimize delays and keep long-haul routes efficient
  • Running regional/local routes that support new business with clients like Merck, Syfan, and Starbucks

 

While Hazmat endorsement is not required, drivers with it may have additional responsibilities and earning potential.

You'll report directly to Carolina Tank Lines dispatch and management, and serve Carolina Tank Lines customers and accounts not the warehouse. This is a local/regional driving role with a big impact on our national network.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • CDL Class A License required
  • Minimum 1 year of verifiable CDL-A experience
  • Hazmat endorsement is a plus
  • 21+ years old
  • Clean driving record & professional attitude
  • Ability to work independently while staying in close communication with dispatch
  • Comfortable with physical tasks like load/unload as needed
  • Strong commitment to safety, service, and teamwork

Wage Range: 28.00 - 35.00 per hour

Job Requirements:

  • Must meet all DOT requirements and qualifications.
  • Final Mile Driver must possess a valid CDL, specifically a Class A license with a hazmat and tanker endorsements.
  • Final Mile Drivers must be at least 21 years old due to interstate driving regulations and insurance requirements.
  • Minimum of one year of driving experience with similar equipment is required.
  • Clean Driving Record, not have more than two moving violations in the past three years.
  • Driving can be physically demanding. Drivers must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam and meet specific health requirements to ensure they can safely operate commercial vehicles.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of hazardous materials transportation regulations, including proper handling, packaging, labeling, placarding, and emergency response procedures.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of Department of Transportation regulations, including hours-of-service rules, vehicle maintenance requirements, and load securement guidelines.
  • Should possess exceptional driving skills, including maneuvering large vehicles, backing up, and navigating through various road and weather conditions.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to meet delivery schedules, plan routes, and coordinate with dispatchers and customers.
  • Proficient in reading maps, using GPS systems, and following directions to ensure they reach their destinations efficiently.
  • Should possess basic vehicle maintenance skills, such as checking tire pressure, fluid levels, and performing routine inspections to ensure the safety and functionality of the vehicle.
  • Prioritize safety and adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, including the proper use of seat belts, maintaining appropriate speed limits, and conducting regular safety checks.
  • Self-motivated individual with a sense of urgency, a demonstrated work ethic and integrity.

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of one year of CDL Class A tractor-trailer driving experience.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Should have good communication skills to interact with customers, fellow drivers, and dispatchers.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and concisely with all levels of employees and build and maintain successful relationships.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively relate to all levels of employees and build and maintain successful relationships.

Computer Skills:

  • Experience with ELD (Electronic Logging Device) software, including logging in, inputting data, managing logs, and generating reports.
  • Ability to quickly learn and operate transportation software and systems.
  • Familiarity with mobile apps and basic computer skills is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, including Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint)is preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • A Final Mile Driver often faces unpredictable situations, such as traffic congestion, adverse weather conditions, and untimely equipment changes. A Final Mile Driver should possess the ability to operate any truck equipped with either manual or automatic transmissions.
  • Need to be flexible and adaptable to handle these challenges while ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Willingness to be on call, and to cover other drivers in their absence.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing needs.
  • Proficiency and experience with hazardous material transportation is preferred.
  • You'll also need to be able to:
    • Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language, including deciphering contract language.
    • See both distance and details at close range, within a few feet of the observer (with or without corrective lenses).
    • Identify and understand the speech of another person (with or without a personal auditory hearing device).
    • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.
